Easter in Tokyo

First Easter Service in Tokyo! We sang Celebrate Jesus! and Hallelujah, Jesus is Alive!, just like the "grown-up churches"! There was a big bouquet of Japanese-arranged flowers in front of the pulpit, and everyone was dressed up in their Sunday best! The Word was preached, hearts were touched, and the Risen Savior was glorified! Amen!

After service we rejoiced in the first of many future potlucks. Lisa made a faith-load of fried chicken, and German potato salad (a great hit with the "crowd"). Sister Mitos brought Filipino style menudo (made with chicken livers - delicious!) and there was a strawberry whipped cream cheesecake, Japanese style (read: miraculously light as air).

We thought we were bringing to Bernice the only Easter basket in church this morning, but to our surprise, the Sorias had brought us treats back from John's business trip to France - Chocolate rabbit and eggs... and 2 tins of paté!

Before everyone left, we had a drawing for the flowers (I was certain that Freddie was going to win). Rie drew Mitos name from the hat - Mitos later confessed that she had admired them so much, she was thinking about getting a bouquet made. I told her, "See sister! If you covet something enough, God will just give it to you!" (Only kidding...).

So Bernice went home with an Easter basket of goodies, and the rest of us went home with tupperwares of goodies ("and there were 12 basketfulls left over"). Praise God! Best Easter, ever!
